About the
New Hampshire Bridge Brigade
Our Mission
NHBBD's bridge volunteers show visible public opposition to authoritarian movements, policies, and laws through peaceful bridge actions across New Hampshire.
Who We Are
We are a peaceful, volunteer-powered network across New Hampshire. We stand on bridges to bring people together, reduce fear, and strengthen democracy through visible community action.

Why We Stand on Bridges
Bridges are visible, accessible public spaces. They allow us to reach thousands of people with a peaceful message Bridges are public, accessible, and visible. When neighbors see others show up for democracy, it inspires hope and reminds people they’re not alone. A single hour on a bridge can shift how someone feels about their community.
What We Do
We gather on 25+ bridges every week or so — holding positive, visible signs that reach tens of thousands of drivers. Our presence helps people feel less alone, counteracts fear, and builds local connection. Click here to view our Calendar of Events.
Who Joins Us
People of all ages, backgrounds, identities, and abilities. Many are older adults. Many live with disabilities or chronic illness. Everyone participates in whatever way works for them — from holding a sign to simply showing up.
How We Stay Safe
We are 100% peaceful. Safety guides our entire model. We've chosen stable, visible locations and ensure volunteers stay on sidewalks or other safe areas. We notify local police before we approach a bridge. We avoid escalation and follow local regulations. On Bridge Action Days Mission Control is "on duty" to help with any issues that might arise. Read more on our Safety Guidelines.
Our Bridge Network
The NH Bridge Brigade includes more than 25 bridge locations across the state — from the Seacoast to the Upper Valley, from Manchester to the North Country. These bridges see tens of thousands of cars each week, making our presence one of the most consistent and visible pro-democracy efforts in New England.
Leadership and Structure
The NH Bridge Brigade is community-led and volunteer-powered, with a small Board and Leadership Team for direction and Bridge Captains who coordinate local gatherings. A few critical teams support communications, safety, and outreach so volunteers can focus on showing up.
