Bridge Brigade Protest Safety Guide
& Emergency Contacts
These Safety Guidelines support every volunteer who stands with us on New Hampshire’s bridges. Our goal is simple: keep people safe, calm, visible, and prepared. We are a peaceful, lawful, democracy-forward movement, and these guidelines help ensure every action reflects that.​
Emergency Contacts
  • For life-threatening emergencies, **CALL 911**.
Before Your Bridge Brigade Action
  • Know your rights: You have the right to peacefully protest on a bridge or overpass carrying banners or signs.

Plan Ahead
  • Make sure there is at least one other person protesting at your bridge.

  • Charge your phone fully.

  • Wear comfortable shoes good for concrete

  • Bring water, snacks, and basic first aid.

  • Dress appropriately for the weather

What to Bring

  • Have to have

    • Banners and signs (each letter is at least. 2 feet tall)

    • Flags

    • Charged cell phone

    • Paper and something to write with / take notes with

    • Emergency contact info (in a small zip lock bag)

    • Whistles (to distract bad actors and signal for help)

    • Sun screen

    • Plenty of water

    • Sense of humor
       

  • Nice to have

    • Cheap body camera

    • Mace (for self defense)

    • Umbrella (for rain and sun)

    • Stool or chair

    • Cheerleader pompoms

    • Basic first aid

During the Bridge Brigade Protest

  • We work hard to place 4 - 5 people per bridge

  • If you choose to protest bridge with less people, make sure there is at least 1 other person protesting with you

  • Stay actively aware of your surroundings. 

  • Sweep debris towards the center of the bridge, so it doesn’t fall to the traffic below

  • Make sure that no objects whatsoever drop to the traffic below

  • Avoid engaging with agitators.

  • Have whistles action-ready. 

  • If one person blows a whistle all should instantly blow their whistles.

  • Plan roles in case of agitators 

  • Who is recording

  • Who is writing notes and documenting license plates and other information

  • Who will call 911 if necessary

  • If police ask you to remove your signs from the fence and hold them

  • Comply immediately (you don’t have to leave)

  • Leave nothing behind when you leave
